College Hall was the first building on the West Philadelphia campus of this Ivy League school. Designed by Thomas Webb Richards and built in 1871, it is a wonderful combination of both Second Empire and Gothic styles. The building’s striking architectural polychromy is created by the use of several stones in both structure and veneer, including brown and yellow sandstone, mica schist, serpentine, and granite. It is one of the foremost buildings in the history of collegiate architecture and is on the National Registry of Historic Places.
