Waverly Street is one of Philadelphia’s many charming “tiny streets.” It runs east–west through Center City spanning the neighborhoods of Washington Square West, Rittenhouse Square, and Fitler Square. Lined with trees, Waverly Street is secluded, quiet, and mostly one lane wide. Yet, it is only a few blocks from the skyscrapers and hustle and bustle of Philadelphia’s financial and commercial center. Most of the Waverly homes are three–story town houses in the vernacular style with considerable embellishments. The home pictured here features a brick and stucco façade, bay window on the second floor, and small Juliet balcony. The heavy door has a European feel to it, as does much of the neighborhood.
