In the 1860s, many stately brownstone townhouses were built in the Second Empire Revival style in the Rittenhouse Square area. This four-story Victorian mansion has a slate mansard roof, windows adorned with stately stone surrounds, and stone steps numbering seven or more. Many of these homes had stables and servants’ quarters on the nearby “tiny streets.” The area around Rittenhouse Square rewards the walker with a true architectural feast.
